Annual Dinner and Presentations

On Saturday 4th December our Captain, Rick Abbotts and his wife Jeannie, organised our Annual Dinner and Trophy Presentations Night at their Home Club, Bromsgrove, and what a great night it once again turned out to be.

The Club made us most welcome and served a delightful meal, which acted as an excellent “Starter” to our main event, the award of this year’s trophies. Unfortunately, due to the late start to the season, our March Trophy could not be awarded but the remainder fell into the hands of our worthy winners, some of whom went away with more than one.

Our Trophies were shared between 6 of our members with Neil Nicholls and Chris Aston winning 3 each, Derek Richards winning 2 including the Tour Trophy and Barry Cotton and Paul Battle 1 each, the latter regaining the WHELKS Bowl he won last year.

These results ensured our last playing Founder, who acts as Handicap Secretary, had the sharpest pencil known in applying our unique Handicap system.  Our Secretary/Treasurer was once again voted as our Player of the Year in recognition of his great work in organising our various matches and keeping our funds up to date.

Another great year enjoyed by all and we look forward to our 1st Game of the Season which is also our AGM at Ombersley in March and our 2022 Golf Tour in North Wales.

White Ensign Lodge Golf Society:

The White Ensign Lodge Golf Society, (The WHELKS), continues to enjoy this season’s golf matches.

Having played our Annual Stroke-Play Competition at The Vale GC, near Evesham, with Barry Cotton winning “The Tansy Putter”. We then played our June game at a new course, Evesham GC; a challenging 9 Hole Course with two sets of Tees; with Neil Nicholls running out as the winner. This then took us to Monday 14th June when 11 members of the Society travelled to The Manor & Ashbury Hotels, Okehampton which claims to be the 9th largest Golf Resort in the world.

During our 5 days stay, we played 5 Rounds on 5 of their 7 Courses. The weather was superb throughout and the whole party thoroughly enjoyed the Tour, the challenges provided by the various courses and the camaraderie such Tours bring.

Derek Richards (pictured on the left) ran out as the eventual winner, and whilst the Tour Manager provided small token prizes to the daily winner, he will receive the Tourist Trophy at our Annual Presentations Dinner in December.

Our next game will be at Bromsgrove Golf Club on Tuesday 20th July.
